Maternity Home

In 2007, over 5000 babies were born to mothers who were cared for either by staff in Maidstone and Pembury maternity units or by midwives working in the community.

Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust provides maternity services to two local units. These are based at Maidstone Hospital and Pembury Hospital.  You may choose to have your baby at either of these units or if you have no existing medical problems and remain fit and well throughout the pregnancy, you may wish to have your baby in your own home.

The majority of women who are fit and healthy before they become pregnant will continue to be so in their pregnancy.  For this group of women, maternity care is normally provided by a team of midwives who are based throughout the catchment area. You may only need to attend the Hospital once or twice during the pregnancy for a scan appointment.
