We cannot give results directly to patients.
Most blood test results are available electronically to GPs and hospital consultants within 48 hours of the test (some results may take longer). Please contact your doctor who will be able to advise you as to when the result will be available and discuss your results with you.

Pathology

The Pathology department tests substances from the body such as blood, urine, faeces and tissue, to investigate disease.  Pathology is divided into different specialist areas so that we can give expert care for each type of problem.

Phlebotomy - taking blood samples from patients

Blood transfusion – we prepare blood for patients in need of a transfusion due to illness, surgery or injury

Cellular Pathology (Histology & Cytology) the study of cells, tissues and organs to detect abnormalities

Clinical Biochemistry – the study of body fluids (including blood) to diagnose and monitor disease

Haematology – the study of blood disorders

Immunology – the study of immune response to diseases

Microbiology the study and treatment of infections

Mortuary care of the deceased
